Michigan's 30th EMMY'S are a huge hit!
Dressed to the 'Nine's' and enjoying the very warm June weather in downtown Detroit, more than 350 members and their guests were very engaged in the 30th Annual NATAS Michigan EMMY awards,
at the famous Gem Theatre. For all of the results you can visit our EMMY page for
the list of winners in every category. Photos from the event will follow here on the home page within the next few days.
Special thanks and congratulations to Robin Tracey, our Chapter VP of Awards and her committee for a fantastic evening. And of course we can't forget the wonderful effort that Stacia Mottley performs on our behalf everyday, as our Chapter Administrator.

Moving Forward in 2008
What's next for all of us
It's not easy to figure out how to break the stranglehold on the Michigan economy or the forecast that seems bleaker every time we talk about it. But as a team of dedicated and creative television professionals, I think it's time we stop whining about it and move forward. And I'm the first one who's going to say, that's enough!
From now on, let's do things to help each other, grow our business, protect our jobs and give some reassurance to the next generation of TV 'wizards' breaking into the business, that they have a fighting chance to survive. Spoken like a true politician, don't you agree? But here's the difference, I've got some ideas.
Election ballots are due in your hands soon. Please take a moment to review the candidates and vote for those members you know and believe, can deliver some key ingredients to our Board of Governor's successes in 2008-09.
Then, let's work to keep television production business at home, in Michigan. Call on your NATAS Michigan members first! Give all of us a shot at your business. Whether it's station promo's or new spot production...or even breakthrough programming for that new 'side channel' or your web site. I'm not suggesting you ignore those folks you've worked with in the past...but maybe there's some benefit to calling on NATAS Michigan members, first?
In return, I would hope that our membership would then step up and make sure you're getting a 110% effort for a reasonable investment on that production and we're all hiring other NATAS Michigan members and their production or post production houses. And if you're not sure who to call, you can start with Stacia Mottley our Chapter Administrator for help.
She's got a direct connect to every member now and we're always willing to help.
Also, take advantage of the new Incentives program from the State. Contrary to many stories floating around, I think you'll find that following these first few months of the start up process, the Film Office has become much more efficient. And while there is still some confusion with the commercials and programs side of the debate, it's clearly included in 'The Package' ...and once it's discussed a little more among all those state legislator's, they'll get it right. I'm confident of that! It means significant savings to you on your production efforts when handled properly. And I'm happy to discuss all of this personally, if you'd like to hear more. My contact information can be found here on the web site.
Finally, I'm asking that each of us find one new member to bring to the Annual Meeting in September this year. With many details to follow from the programs committee very soon, I believe you'll be thoroughly impressed with what we'll bring to the table September 12th and 13th in Lansing! We'll see you then...
Regards and have a great Michigan Summer!
